Asthma treatment usually starts by identifying the causes behind the condition. Before we go deeper into that it’s worth mentioning that many doctors believe that this respiratory system disorder that cannot be cured. It can only be treated. However, many former asthma sufferers would disagree especially as it’s quite common to suffer from asthma as a child but to grow out of it in adulthood.
When someone has asthma, his or her airways tend to get blocked and irritated and excess mucous is produced.
As a result they have difficulty breathing and, in severe cases, this is referred to as an asthma attack. ‘Triggers’ are very important in this since these ‘triggers’ are what promote the attack in the first place. Things that are believed to trigger asthma include, old pocket watches
, dust, pollution, pets, physical labor, cold and even emotional stress.
When there is an excess of these elements they act as a ‘Trigger’ and induce an asthma attack. So before asthma treatment is undertaken it is useful to first identify the exact ‘Trigger’ that is responsible for the problem.
Asthma Inhalers
Asthma treatment will also depend on the extent of the problem. Based on the frequency and duration, the disease can be categorized as:
Mild intermittent asthma
Mild persistent asthma
Moderate persistent asthma
Severe persistent asthma
Asthma can happen to anyone, young and old and so the treatment will vary according to the patients age and its severity.
There are two main, old pocket watches
, aids that are used in the treatment of asthma, inhalers for adults and asthma spacers for younger people who need asthma treatment. Adults with breathing problems find that the pocket sized metered-dose inhalers are essential items. However, those who are young cannot use inhalers easily and for them there are asthma spacers. Many adults also use these spacers especially if they cannot hold their breadth for 10 seconds or so.
Nebulizers
Nebulizers are convenient for asthma treatment especially in the case of a severe attack. They help breathing become easier more quickly because they administer larger and unbroken doses to the person. The medicine is mixed in a saline solution, old pocket watches
, and the generated stream is constantly passed on as a foggy vapor. The person suffering from, old pocket watches
, asthma receives the entire vapor constantly.
In the beginning, the nebulizer relaxes the airway and then the medication is passed on steadily. Many asthma patients prefer the nebulizer, feeling that they are a more efficient asthma treatment than an inhaler. They are also ideal for children because the medicine, old pocket watches
, is administered, old pocket watches
, through a mask and doesn’t require any dexterity on the part of the patient.
Asthma Treatment Medication
Inhalers, asthma spacers and nebulizers are fine but its’ the medications that are they contain that solve the breathing problems of the patient. Asthma treatment medications can be classified into the following:
Anti-inflammatory drugs
Prolonged bronchodilators
These medications are applicable when the disease is at a somewhat advanced stage and not mild. To control the symptoms and for disease treatment anti-inflammatory drugs need to be taken.
And along with them supplemental medications in the form of prolonged bronchodilators should be taken too.
Long term drugs for asthma treatment include inhaled corticosteroids, leukotriene modifiers, cromolyn sodium, oral corticosteroids, theophylline and long-acting beta2 agonists.
A lot of research continues on the subject of asthma treatment but as yet a definite cure is not agreed upon. So in its absence the best thing to do is to watch out for the ‘Triggers’ and try to stay away from them.
Then seek help from your doctor in the form of inhalers, asthma spacers, nebulizers and medications. You will be prescribed the best asthma treatment for your particular situation.
